Do you use Manual files or Power tools?
I use manual files and equipment that have been specifically design to match my technique and physique to allow easy filing with less vibrations for the horse during their dental treatment.
Do you sedate?
No, I do not sedate. Only veterinary dentists are allowed to sedate horses. I find that 99% of horses do not require a sedation to perform a routine dental treatment. If your horse requires more extensive treatment, difficult extractions or your horse just really doesn’t like the dentist (!) then I can coordinate with a vet to come out to admister a light sedative for your horse.
Belle Palmer, Equine Dentist. Background story.
BSc. Dip. eq. dent.
Belle has been involved with horses since she could walk and after leaving school completed a Bachelor of Science at UNSW whilst working as a track work rider at Randwick racecourse in Sydney. Belle has travelled around Australia working with different trainers and relocated to New Zealand in 2011 to train in her own right. Belle then established a successful breaking in and sales preparation yard before moving to Victoria.
Belinda trained with Peter Borgdorff, founder of the National Equine Dental Practitioners Association and the Australian Equine Dental Practice. She is a fully certified and insured practitioner capable of performing routine and complex dental procedures. Belle has also spent contact days training with Brendon Cohen and Peter Lane.
Belle practices on the Mornington Peninsula which she calls home, and regularly travels across Victoria treating horses of all shapes and sizes.
Belle has a calm and assertive approach when performing dental procedures and is able to treat almost all horses without the need for sedation. Should your horse require sedation Belle can organise vet attendance to admister a sedative. Along with equine dentistry Belle also has a passion for soft tissue manipulation (horse massage therapy) and equine acupuncture for which she services racing yards and performance horses throughout Victoria.
